Invited Celebrity Classic Tournament Update

Celebrities: Greg Maddux and Brian McCann join the field

Fan Experience: Corona Premier to provide on-site virtual reality golf experience

Competition: Recent commitments Andrade, Dunlap, McCarron share a fondness for Atlanta

IRVING, TX –The top PGA TOUR Champions golfers will be teeing it up at the Las Colinas Country Club for the 2023 Invited Celebrity Classic on April 21-23. As the only event of its kind on PGA TOUR Champions, a field of 78 PGA TOUR Champions players and 40 celebrities will compete in separate competitions for $2.5 million in prize money. GOLF Channel will televise all three days of competition with celebrities and PGA TOUR Champions paired in the same groups over 54 holes.

Complimentary grounds tickets are available for all three days of the tournament, with Invited providing admission on Friday, April 21, Energy Transfer on Saturday, April 22, and Choctaw Casinos & Resort on Sunday, April 23. Additionally, upgraded Clubhouse tickets and other hospitality packages can be purchased for this second-year event. Thanks to sponsor and community support, the Invited Celebrity Classic will look to build on the impact generated by last year’s inaugural event for its local charitable partners - First Tee Greater Dallas, First Tee Fort Worth and Momentous Institute.

The on-site experience at Las Colinas Country Club will not only feature some of the world’s best golfers and popular celebrities, but a number of fan experience elements that make the Invited Celebrity Classic a must-attend event.

CELEBRITIES:  Greg Maddux, the Hall of Fame pitcher and four-time Cy Young Award-winner, headlines the latest announcement of additions to the celebrity field.  Standout catcher Brian McCann,  one of a long line of top tier catchers to wear the New York Yankees uniform, is also locked in for 2023.

Maddux was a stalwart member of the Braves’ 1995 World Series Champion pitching staff to culminate a season in which he won his fourth-straight National League Cy Young.  He played in eight All-Star games, won 18 Gold Gloves and is regarded as one of the best fielding pitchers of all-time.  Maddux led the NL in wins three times and topped all pitchers in ERA four times. He was inducted to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown in 2014. Maddux returns after a 28th place finish in last year's tournament.

McCann is also a World Series Champion as a member of the Houston Astros in 2017. He was named an All-Star seven times and won six Silver Slugger Awards over the course of his career. He retired in 2019 following a successful 15-year career with the Braves, Yankees and Astros. McCann returns after a 17th place finish in last year's tournament.

FAN EXPERIENCE: As the official beer sponsor of the Invited Celebrity Classic presented by Choctaw Casinos & Resorts, Corona Premier will be served at all concessions stands on the course as well as inside the clubhouse. As part of its partnership with the tournament, Corona Premier is also bringing its exclusive Corona Premier VR Golf Tour onsite. Located on the 18th fairway, this fan enhancement will provide all on-site attendees with an opportunity to participate in a unique virtual reality golf experience. Participants will be transported to the “Corona Premier Clubhouse,” where they will choose from one of three custom-designed locations to test their golf skills. This experience is designed to be fun for both beginners and experienced golfers and while it is easy to play, it will be difficult to master.

COMPETITION: In addition to the celebrity participants with Atlanta Braves ties, Atlanta is also well-represented in the PGA TOUR Champions player field with residents Billy Andrade and Scott Dunlap set to tee it up along with Scott McCarron, who has enjoyed great success at Atlanta-area tournaments during his professional career.

Andrade, a four-time PGA TOUR winner, three-time PGA TOUR Champions winner, and the 2022 Payne Stewart Award recipient, grew up in Bristol, Rhode Island and maintains residences in both Bristol and Atlanta. Easily recognizable on the course with a hat that dons a large Major League Baseball logo, Andrade closed with a final-round 66 en route to a fifth-place finish at last year’s Invited Celebrity Classic

A winner in his first full season on PGA TOUR Champions at the 2014 Boeing Classic, Dunlap has been a steady performer throughout his PGA TOUR Champions career with 36 top-10 finishes, including six runner-up finishes. A resident of the Atlanta suburb of Duluth, Dunlap nearly logged another top 10 at the inaugural Invited Celebrity Classic, ultimately recording a T15 that he will look to improve at the 2023 event.

Though he was born in California and currently resides in North Carolina, there must be something in the Atlanta water that McCarron enjoys. The 2019 Charles Schwab Cup Champion and 11-time PGA TOUR Champions winner earned two of his three career PGA TOUR victories in Atlanta while adding a PGA TOUR Champions Peach State win at the 2019 Mitsubishi Electric Classic. McCarron got his 2023 season started off on the right foot with a T15 finish at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai.
